A hush fell over Kasinthia when the Council of 5 voted 3-2 to rescind their blood mage policies, and re-evaluate each and every rule and tactic regarding them. Most surprisingly was the alliance of Heito Heiwa in this deal, notorious for his belief in the death of all blood mages, voted concretely for less harsh policies regarding them. Judith Yevowitz, owner of the Paladin Order, had this to say:
“I am surprised that Heiwa, Weatherby and Mcnamara took such a united front. The decision is a controversial one, but the legal procedures have set it in stone. The Paladin Order will serve justice, no one needs to worry about that.”
What’s even stranger is how quickly this happened after the increased amount of blood mage eliminating had been occurring. Perhaps the blood slaughter had been too much for them, despite not yet reaching the levels of the blood mage purge two years ago.
While Ms. Yevowitz was neutral with her dissatisfaction of the result, Aithne Finathen had quite more to say:
“The **** buggers have gone completely mad. Give it a few months and we’ll be run over by an angry public. Mcnamara was ******** talking about even no longer making it illegal, or possibly giving exception to Academy Professors to learn it for scientific reasons! This is all bliming madness, I’ll say.”
Mcnamara refused to give any comments, and as a result, there have been sparse few official statements from the Paladin Order that has not merely been opinion or hearsay. There have already been very negative reactions to the decision, with many of the paladins protesting what they see has a suicidal move for the safety of all of Kasinthia. There are already plans put in motion to stage a protest for the changing rules.
What is important to note is that no great changes have actually occurred yet. Merely a date has been set up to re-evaluate all the rules, strategies and policies in place. It is quite possible that the trio of Paladins are not thinking of subverting decades of proven-to-work tactics, and merely want to make sure they no longer only refer to mages with gender specific pronouns, just in case there are more psychopathic genderless blood mages that will be blowing up important buildings.
If you could not detect the sarcasm in that sentence, then this sentence should serve you well to inform that the chances of that being true is slim to none. The opening sentence of the appeal to review the policies went thusly:
“We, Heito Heiwa, Carther Mcnamara, and Jeselle Weatherby hereby put forth the request to re-evaluate any and all amendments and rules pertaining to the Paladin Order’s treatment of Blood Mages and Blood Magic. We have come to believe that our previous actions have been greatly unjust, and cruel to many innocents. We have saved many people, and we should continue to do so for the greater good, and stop the evil uses of any and all magic, up to and including demon summoning and blood magic, but it is time we halt the unnecessary killings, which are becoming akin to cold blooded genocide.”
The date is set for two weeks from now, and will last as long as needed. So long as the alliance of the three Paladins stays strong, it would appear that the entire Order will be strong armed into a new order.
