The White Academy for the Lost Children of Bree was almost completely destroyed today after what started as a small kitchen fire. A cooking fire that blazed out of control rapidly spread throughout the two-story wooden building, taking out much of the structural support of the west side of the building and causing it to collapse.
The Academy was a boarding school for troubled children, housing several orphans, as well. This year’s enrollment reached an all-time high of 284 students, ranging from 5 to 18 years of age, although most of the students are 14 and over. The Educational Department of the capitol city of Redanwood threatened to shut the Academy down in late 775, but through charity events run by Princess Daisy Love Windlore to collect lumber and other materials needed for repairs, the Academy managed to stay open.
The princess herself is reported to have run to the Academy upon hearing news of the fire. All of the students and staff had been immediately instructed to evacuate, but five people– three children and two teachers– had been trapped in the burning building. When four were rescued and a child remained inside, Princess Daisy had recognized the boy by name and ran into the building, despite much protest from surrounding on-lookers.
It wasn’t long before His Royal Majesties, King Manfred and Prince Jack Windlore, arrived on the scene. “I was dreadfully worried that I might never see her again,” said the king himself in an exclusive interview. The father and son came to the Academy with a creature of the warships that arrived on Bree’s shores prior to the peak of the Fourth War. The half-goat man is reported to have run into the burning building, lifted a fallen beam that had trapped the princess and the boy, and led them out to safety, ensuring that no lives were lost in this terrible accident.
After an hour and a half, three mages were able to put out the fire with water magic, but the building seems to be irreparably burned down as too much structural damage has been done to the school. We asked the king whether his daughter had any plans to help the school get back on its feet, considering her previous work with the White Academy. “Well, we are creatures of habit, the Windlores,” he told our reporters. “If she did it once, she’ll do it again!”
King Aldo of Kasinthia has agreed to allow the children and staff of White Academy to stay in the Kasinthian Public Library while reparations are made. If you would like to send a non-monetary donation towards the rebuilding of the White Academy for the Lost, please contact the Kasinthian Times.
